Is your home showing a network of surface cracks? Fear not! I'm here to guide you through the process of identifying and repairing those unsightly cracks in your walls and ceilings. A well-maintained home not only looks better but also stands the test of time.

Identifying and Exposing the Cracks

First, it's essential to determine the type and severity of the cracks. Once identified, carefully expose the cracks by widening them slightly. This preparation ensures that the filler can properly adhere and fill the space effectively. Remember, preparation is key to a successful repair.

Filling the Cracks

Use a recommended wall/ceiling filler and thoroughly clean the area, removing any dust or debris with a wire brush. This ensures a clean surface for the filler to bond with. Work the filler into the gaps using a decorating filler knife/blade, applying it both vertically and horizontally along the cracks.

Sanding and Repeating the Process

Allow the filler to dry completely and then gently sand the area with fine-grit sandpaper. Repeat the procedure – cleaning, refilling, and sanding – until the cracks are fully filled and the surface is smooth. This meticulous approach guarantees a seamless finish.

The Finishing Touches

Apply a mist coat to the repaired area (refer to our mist coat blog for guidance) before applying your top coat finish. This step ensures that the repaired area blends seamlessly with the rest of your wall or ceiling, providing a professional and lasting result.
