Just had your room replastered? It's an exciting time to bring your vision to life, but painting new plaster requires patience and the right approach. Here’s a quick guide from us at Wall2Wall Painters & Decorators to ensure a flawless finish.

The Do's and Don'ts of Painting New Plaster

Do: Allow Drying Time

New plaster needs time to fully dry out. We recommend waiting between 4 to 8 weeks before painting. This ensures that the moisture has evaporated, providing a stable surface for the paint.

Do: Apply a Mist Coat

Before anything else, apply a mist coat. This is a diluted coat of paint (60% water, 40% paint) that helps to seal the plaster and provide a good base for subsequent coats.

Don't: Rush the Process

Patience is key. Painting too soon can lead to paint peeling, bubbling, or other issues that will require you to redo the work.

Don't: Seal with PVA

Beware of using PVA as a sealer. It can create a plastic-like layer that prevents the paint from properly adhering to the plaster.
